“AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER” WILL NOT SUFFER FROM M.NIGHT SHYAMALAN
NETFLIX TO ADAPT AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER WITH ORIGINAL CREATORS
Avatar: The Last Airbender was a huge hit for Nickelodeon and quickly cemented itself into the nostalgia books despite entering our lives so late. Despite a feature film by M. Night Shyamalan and an extensive sequel in The Legend of Korra, nothing quite compares to the original.
Now Netflix has entered a new phase of development by picking up the original show for a live-action retelling. The best part is that the original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will executive produce and be the showrunners for this new adaptation. Netfilx hasn’t had the best track record with live-action adaptations, but Death Note was a solid film for casual Western audiences and Netflix was not directly involved in the Full Metal Alchemist adaptation; seeing how the director wanted to be true to the Japanese-ness of the source material. Also, Avatar: The Last Airbender is not really an anime, although the case could be made that it is.
The production is slated to start next year as the final touches still need to be placed on development.
Is this something you’d want to see or no?
