COMING BACK TO AMERICA?
“COMING TO AMERICA” GETTING A SEQUEL (MAYBE A REBOOT)
The 1988 classic “Coming to America” is somehow slated for a sequel. Kenya Barris (who writes for “Black-ish”) will be writing the new film while Johnathan Levine will direct.
Nothing huge has been confirmed for the film (not even Eddie Murphy’s reprisal of Prince Akeem). In fact the only reason the “sequel” will take place is because original writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield are still obligated by contract to create a sequel.
Back in 2013 with the revival of the Arsenio Hall Show, Murphy was a guest and revealed why a sequel took so long to develop. Apparently a man kept suing the film creators claiming to be a real African prince that inspired the plot. With so much time passing between both movies, this film will supposedly be set 30 years after the original. The question: is this a reboot or a true sequel?
