With Mortal Kombat 11‘s massive success, the time for DLC has now arrived. DLC these days can be extensive and add a massive amount of time to a title’s lifetime. Before the game debuted, we learned that classic villain Shang Tsung would be the first DLC to release and now we get to see what he’s capable of.

While Shang Tsung in the game’s Krypt mode is considerably older, when facing off in Versus mode he is able to reverse his age to how fans were first introduced to him (must be the power of souls). Not only is this a nice throwback, but the trailer reveals that all of Shang Tsung’s fighting style is a throwback to the classic days. Shang Tsung is able to transform into classic palette swap ninjas Reptile, Ermac, Smoke and Rain to perform their moves. His fatal blow also sees Shang Tsung transform into the classic skins of Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Noob Saibot, combining their moves into one new combo. And of course, he can absorb his opponent’s soul to transform into them. His Fatality sees the return of Kintaro as Kintaro brutally rips the opponent apart from the inside out; similar to De’Vorah’s Fatality.

The DLC news doesn’t stop with Shang Tsung as former fighters Sindel and Nightwolf were confirmed as coming soon, along with the first guest fighter revealed to be Todd McFarlane’s Spawn. These characters were previously teased by Ed Boon and it looks like we can expect more teased characters to possibly be true. This would mean that Ash from the Evil Dead franchise, DC’s Joker and the Terminator will be the next characters revealed.

In another nice tribute to detail, Keith David will return as the voice of Spawn when Spawn is released and Shang Tsung was already confirmed to be played by his movie adaptation actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa.

Only Shang Tsung will release on June 18th along with new gear and cosmetic pieces. Now you get to hear “Your soul is mine!” in HD.
