ENTER THE FATAL CUTIE!
TERRY BOGARD GETS GENDER-SWAPPED IN SNK HEROINES: TAG TEAM FRENZY
SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy seemed to be a straight-forward game with fan service tendencies and an aesthetically diverse roster. There were cute girls, timid girls, deadly women, femme fatales and just striking women that were different than we remember for some reason. But the last entrant to win the title of “Belle of the Ball” is really something else.
In what may be seen as gender equality is actually a genre that Japan likes to play with. Either way, it’s both confusing but thrilling. The last member of the SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy roster is Fatal Fury‘s Terry Bogard. Ever since Fatal Fury debuted, Terry has been thrown into the King of Fighters franchise as an homage to his popularity. He’s sure to be a hell of a lot more popular now since he’s been completely gender-swapped in order to enter this game. The new Terry Bogard is now just known as Terry, but still sports the iconic red jacket and baseball cap. She can also kick your ass Fatal Fury style.
The trailer for Terry reveals that the grandmaster behind the whole tournament apparently likes to change people’s genders and Terry is none the pleased. A fight is still a fight, however, and it looks like Terry has the most to gain out of a victory.
This move just cemented SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy‘s place in video game history and may actually make the gender-swap theme more prominent. Female Terry is cute, adds a surprise character that drives players to pick up the game, and body swaps are common in Western media (granted not all the swaps are gender swaps). This decision is also somewhat powerful as it has hints of gender equality about it. Why can’t a male enter an all-female game; although that’s not really the message you want to publicize.
Who will be the “Belle of the Ball” out of these 14:
