EVO 2019!
GET READY FOR A NEW SEASON!
Normally the fighting video games we cover are separated, but EVO 2019 looked to redo the entire landscape. So check out all of the announcements for next year:
GUILTY GEAR 2020
Only a teaser trailer was shown, but a new Guilty Gear game was revealed for next year. Titled Guilty Gear 2020, the game will be fully 3D from the models to the environment to the cutscenes.
SOULCALIBUR VI
Season two for SoulCalibur VI’s DLC is coming with four characters, a guest and presumably three returning characters. The guest was revealed to be a crossover with Samurai Shodown with Haohmaru being welcomed to the stage of history. He will come with his own gear to use in create a character along with the other three fighters. Along with more fighters, the season pass includes new moves for characters and a new counter system involving multiple parries. There’s no release date yet but you can enjoy the return of Sophitia’s sister Cassandra who rounds out the Season 1 pass out now!
SAMURAI SHODOWN
Speaking of Samurai Shodown, SNK revealed that a new fighter would be available every month until January 2020 as part of their Season 1 pass. Rimururu is for August, with Basara in October, Kazuki Kazama in November and Wan-Fu in December. While these characters are paid DLC, September will feature Shizumaru Hisame for free. There will also be a Season 2 pass for 2020.
TEKKEN 7
Tekken 7 will get a third season and it’s even crazier than Negan from The Walking Dead. Season 3 will give every character in the game new moves, including Akuma’s Raging Demon. On top of that, Zafina will make her return to the series. Season 3 will include four other characters with Zafina with the new original fighter named Leroy Smith. One of the DLC fighters will be a guest fighter and a new stage will be featured as well. The pass kicks off with Zafina being released in the fall.
DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ
The second Fighterz pass for Dragon Ball Fighterz is finally complete. The last two fighters were revealed as Jenemba and SSGSS Gogeta. Jenemba was previously leaked as early as April but he will be available August 8th. Only SSGSS Gogeta is without a release date.
MORTAL KOMBAT 11
It was already revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 would get six new fighters as DLC and if anything four of them were already revealed; with Shang Tsung already getting a trailer. At EVO though, we finally got a look at another character in action. The official trailer for Nightwolf was revealed and he brings glory to his ancestors. He can fight using knives, axes and a bow and arrow for mixed range use. He also invokes the spirit of the bear, eagle and wolf to create a shield, extend combos or increase power respectively. Early access for Nightwolf begins August 13th and the Kombat Pack will also include the original Mortal Kombat skins for the roster.
BLAZBLUE CROSS TAG BATTLE
In what is trying to be the greatest fighting crossover in history, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle introduced four of nine new fighters to the roster. Two new franchises will now convene with the rest as Yumi from Senran Kagura Estival Versus and Akatsuki and Blitztank from Akatsuki Blitzkampf were officially announced. Adding further hype is the inclusion of a desperately needed RWBY character Neo Politan. These four fighters will be available November 21st and we still have to wait for the other five to be announced as part of the “Next Version 2.0”.
