GABRIELLE UNION AND JESSICA ALBA ARE THE BAD GIRLS
ALBA JOINS UNION IN BAD BOYS TV SPIN-OFF SERIES
Jessica Alba will co-star in the untitled series as Union’s partner in the LAPD. Union will be returning to the franchise as her character from the second film, Sydney “Syd” Burnett (sister of Martin Lawrence’s character, Marcus). Along with the announcement of Alba’s addition, a synopsis of the show has been released as well.
The drama revolves around free-spirited former DEA agent Syd Burnett (Union, reprising her role from Bad Boys II), who has a fresh start in her new job as an LAPD detective. She is partnered with Nancy McKenna (Alba), a working mom who can’t help but look at Syd’s freedom with some grass-is-greener envy. These two have totally different lifestyles and approaches, but they both are at the top of their fields in the action-packed, character-driven procedural.
It looks like Union’s character will remain the same in personality in order to contrast the description of Alba’s character (listed below):
Alba’s Nancy joined the Army out of high school and spent most of the 2000s in Iraq and Afghanistan. Women weren’t allowed in combat so she joined the military police to get closer to the action and is now a detective raising two preteen step-kids with her husband.
If anything, it’s the same formula from Bad Boys, just in the form of women; and it’s a procedural type show which means more drama than action.
Union and now Alba starring means the show is trying to go all out with quality, and it better considering Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to executive produce the series. The script is also being written by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis who write The Blacklist.
There still hasn’t been a production date slated and news of a possible cameo by Martin Lawrence and Will Smith hasn’t even been speculated yet. If the series does well though, a Bad Boys 3 may be green-lit.
