GABRIELLE UNION BRINGS BACK THE “BAD BOYS”
TV SPIN-OFF TO FOCUS ON GABRIELLE UNION’S RETURNING CHARACTER
Everyone’s hopes for a Bad Boys reunion have been answered…sort of. The movie franchise is actually returning in a TV spin-off that will focus on a character Union played in the second movie. The spin-off doesn’t have a title yet, but already has huge leverage with the original film’s producers, Jerry Bruckheimer and Doug Belgrad’s studios (2.0 Entertainment and Primary Wave Entertainment) supporting the project. Sony Pictures TV Studios is rumored to head production, considering their movie counterpart was behind the film franchise.
The spin-off will also be written by The Blacklist producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Primary Wave Entertainment also happens to be Union’s management firm so the pieces are pretty much in place for this to happen. Union becoming available through the finale of Being Mary Jane also helps.
Union appeared in Bad Boys II as special agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett who was the sister of Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (played by Martin Lawrence). Her character was an undercover DEA agent who was also romantically involved with Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (played by Will Smith). Sydney Burnett will return as the focal point of the TV series but no other details are known.
Belgrad was the head of creative on the first Bad Boys film and has since made it a goal to finance the third installment of the series. Until then, fans will have to settle for the trouble Syd may bring/manage in the spin-off.
Not only did the film catapult Smith and Lawrence to super-stardom, it also gave us this great theme song:
