GET READY FOR SUPER BROLY!
LEGENDARY SUPER SAIYAN BROLY IS NOW CANON IN DRAGON BALL SUPER
Before Dragon Ball Super ended its broadcast run a trailer for a full-length film had been released. Normally films centered around the Dragon Ball Z franchise are non-canon and just available for a fun time, however, the films Battle of the Gods and The Resurrection of F proved to be integral to Dragon Ball Super. Now the stakes have been raised with reveal of the upcoming film’s antagonist.
The fan-favorite legendary super saiyan Broly will make his debut in the Dragon Ball Super universe and be written into canon! The new film is literally called Dragon Ball Super: Broly and will premiere in Japanese theaters December 14th. The original trailer and synopsis only revealed that a new member of the saiyan race would appear to face Goku and Vegeta, but creator Akira Toriyama broke his silence on the film revealing that Broly would be the new saiyan. Technically, all of Broly’s previous appearances in the franchise were considered one-offs and not part of the overall story. Since bringing back the franchise with Dragon Ball Super, Toriyama is now able to retcon Broly’s backstory to make him a legitimate part of Dragon Ball Super.
Here’s a video explaining Toriyama’s thought process on re-introducing Broly:
For now the film will solely be a Japanses release, however based on The Resurrection of F, the new film could hit the U.S. in early 2019.
