IS DIEGO “DEAD OR ALIVE”?
EVO TRAILER REVEALS ONE RETURN & ONE DEBUT FOR DEAD OR ALIVE 6
Back at E3, Koei Tecmo revealed that the Dead or Alive franchise was getting a sixth entry. While many were hoping for jiggle physics and skimpy outfits, fans were treated to an actual fighting game filled with complex and beautiful combos. During the initial announcement, it was confirmed that series regulars Kasumi, Hayate, Ryu Hayabusa, Zack, Jann Lee and Helena Douglas would return. Now at EVO, another announcement has led to the return of Rig and the debut of Diego.
Diego is a street-fighter from New York who became known as the “Uncrowned Street Hero” due to using his prize money for his sick mother. While many fighters in the franchise specialize in close-combat, Diego can and will use anything around him to fight and his combos consist of headbutts and shoulder tackles to boot.
Diego also marks the first Latin American to enter the Dead or Alive universe, as the only Americans are Zack, an African-American, Lisa Hamilton also an African-American and the Caucasian Armstrong family (Bass and Tina). The only Latin character is Mila and she is directly from Spain, which marks Diego’s significance in series when it comes to representation.
Along with Diego’s reveal, a gameplay showcase was revealed proving that Dead or Alive 6 will try to revitalize the series and rebrand it into a true fighting game contender, even though it always was. There’s no release date yet for Dead or Alive 6 but the current roster is as follows:
