J. B. SMOOVE’S ROLE IN “SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME” REVEALED
SECRET CASTING NOW REVEALED
Before any of the big Avengers: Endgame hype, J.B. Smoove had been added to the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast, however, his role was not fully revealed. While he could have played some potential huge character from the Spider-Man universe, it turns out his role was a secret due to how he obtained it.
Smoove isn’t playing some pivotal character in Spider-Man’s life; he’s playing a teacher. Smoove’s character was revealed by producer Eric Caroll as Mr. Dell, a teacher from Peter’s high school who will be the class’s chaperone on their trip throughout Europe. Smoove will be joined by a returning Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington. Basically, Smoove will act as comedic relief alongside Starr according to Caroll:
“We’re also bringing back Martin Starr as the hapless Mr. Harrington. Together with Mr. Dell, they constitute the least-capable group of chaperones ever to be sent to Europe with a bunch of kids. When we knew we wanted a teacher to be escorting these kids across Europe, he was our first choice. So, sure enough, now we’ve got these two as this amazing comedic pair showing these kids around Europe. Martin Starr, he’s like, ‘Okay, kids, there’s a water monster. So, maybe we’ll-‘, and then you’ve got J.B. Smoove doing the exact opposite. ‘Are you guys seeing this?!‘”
Smoove was asked to join the film after starring alongside Tom Holland in an Audi commercial featuring Spider-Man. He did so well that a character was created just for him to be featured in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Spider-Man: Far From Home premieres July 2nd. You can check out the Audi commercial below:
