“MAD MEN” STAR CASTS A SPELL
KIERNAN SHIPKA TO STAR IN NETFLIX REBOOT OF SABRINA: THE TEENAGE WITCH
With the success of the CW’s adaptation of the Archie Comics franchise in Riverdale, the Sabrina franchise was announced to make a cross-over appearance sometime in the future. While the cross-over project has yet to make any major progression, Netflix has announced that it would produce a standalone series for the character.
As of the weekend, Sabrina herself has finally been cast and it’s none other than Kiernan Shipka. Despite a lengthy resume, Shipka is best known for her role as Sally Draper, daughter of the controversial, yet iconic Don Draper in Mad Men.
After being on set for such a gritty and unapologetic show like Mad Men (especially at the age of 10), Shipka can no doubt hold her own when faced with the themes of this new Sabrina show. Her age (18) along with the themes of her character from Mad Men (entering puberty in the 60’s with her parents’ marriage falling out) will fit perfectly with the coming of age story that Sabrina will face in the same era of time. A better testament of Shipka’s skill is her promotion to series regular on Mad Men during its fourth season. She must have done well to earn that spot.
Netflix’s Sabrina series has yet to start production, however two seasons have already been ordered. While the show will remain more faithful to the comic’s origin, we have yet to know what the fate of the cross-over with Riverdale will be, if there is one anymore.
