JAMES WAN PRODUCED FILM TO START PRODUCTION THIS YEAR
Video games have yet to be properly represented as films (except for Pokemon: Detective Pikachu) but that won’t stop James Wan. Wan is famous for the Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring franchises as well as the DC film Aquaman. It is now confirmed that Wan will produce a new film for the video game franchise and it will start filming sometime this year.
Wan will only produce the film with the film serving as Simon McQuoid’s directorial debut. Filming will take place in Adelaide, Australia. While no other details have been announced, the film would most likely be rated-R considering it’s subject material. This new film would be best served as a reboot, especially considering the most recent game is the finale of a rebooted timeline. Then again, PG-13 sells more tickets and some plotlines still need to be fleshed out from the timeline introduced in the 2011 Mortal Kombat game reboot.
The earliest the film could release is the summer of 2020. Should Mortal Kombat get another film?
