Video games and movies have a tumultuous relationship-movies based on video games tend to flop and video games based on movies are just rehashes of the film. Mike Bithell is looking to change that with his upcoming video game John Wick Hex.

John Wick Hex is being produced by Bithell and Good Shepard Entertainment in close, constant communication with the creative and action teams of the film franchise. Good Shepard Entertainment released a statement about the game:

“Created in close cooperation with the creative and stunt teams behind the films, ‘John Wick Hex’ is fight-choreographed chess brought to life as a video game, capturing the series’ signature gun fu style while expanding its story universe. Players must choose every action and attack they make, while considering their immediate cost and consequences. Every move in ‘John Wick Hex’ feels like a scene from the movies, and every fight contributes to your progress on the job and requires precise strategic thinking.”

The best game to compare this style to is the XCOM franchise of games. In John Wick Hex, players will control John Wick in real time and then have to strategically pick a command from a list. Usually these commands are all related to killing or knocking the target out, with each command having some sort of consequence. Should you pop out from cover and shoot multiple targets or sneak closer and knock them out? Should you use your gun and alert everyone with the sound or use something else?

The game is also being produced alongside Lionsgate Games so everything you can do will fit in the thought process of “What would John Wick do?” There’s no release date announced but John Wick Hex will be released via the Epic Games store for PC and MAC.
