PHONES GO NINTENDO DS STYLE
ZTE LAUNCHES NEW PHONE WITH TWO SCREENS
The newest trend among cell phones appears to be smaller bezels (the edge around a phone’s screen) and larger screens (i.e. infinity displays), but what would the public think about a phone with two screens?
Chinese manufacturer ZTE is proposing that question with its new Axom M phone. Heavy duty tech users often use two monitors for their desktops and the 2-in-1 laptops that are able to swivel back and forth between uses. Nintendo even proved that two screens can work for gaming with the DS and WiiU game systems. Cell phones should be the next logical step.

Fold-able phones may be the next big thing in cell phones.
The Axom M has two full-color LCD screens each measuring 5.2 inches diagonally. When placed together (via hinges and similar to 2-in-1 laptops) the Axom M’s two screens create a 1920×2160 pixel display. ZTE also revealed that a three-fingered swipe can send apps from one screen to another (like dual desktop monitors). This designation allows different apps to run on separate screens or just have one app fit both screens combined. Thanks to the dual screens, the phone can also sit like a tent for watching videos or multi-player games (exactly how 2-in-1 laptops sit).
The concept for the phone is great but the specs are average. The Axom M runs on Android Nougat (7.1.2) with 4GB of Ram and 64 GB for storage. It includes an average Snapdragon 821 processor and a 3,180-mAh battery. Due to the two screens, users won’t need to turn the phone around for pictures and the phone can pack a larger camera with 20 megapixels and a F1.8 aperture.
ZTE is the first company to test out these waters with Samsung supposedly working on a “fold-able” phone (Galaxy X) for the 2018-2019 season. While ZTE’s phone has the hinged joint(sometimes a distraction when the screens are placed together), the Galaxy X could be comprised of one seamless screen.
ZTE is worth looking into as Chinese manufacturer Huawei does make extraordinary phones on par with Samsung, Apple and Google in the Western markets.
The Axom M is an AT&T exclusive phone available for $24.17 a month on a 30 month contract.
