“SABRINA: THE TEENAGE WITCH” RETURNS TO ITS DARK ROOTS
REBOOT/SPINOFF OF 90’S CLASSIC WILL RETURN TO ITS DARK ORIGIN
There are two things great about this news:
Sabrina: The Teenage Witch will return.
The series returns to the dark roots it apparently has.
For many people growing up in the 90’s, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch turned out to be one of the television shows that would define their lives and generation. As time went on, the show turned casual fans into cult-like fans. Turns out that “cult” is an appropriate tag to use for the original source material.
If one were to dig around in the junk pile that is the Internet, one would find that Sabrina: The Teenage Witch was not just a live-action show; it had an animated series as well. In the animated series, Sabrina actually exists in the realm of Archie comics, with her either living in Riverdale or the neighboring city of Greendale. In the comics, Sabrina has multiple cross-overs with Archie and the gang; which led to her own comic series where she fights demonic forces trying to destroy the city and possess her (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
The script is already drafted and it’s based on the comic.
The upcoming reboot will actually return to the comic’s roots as it is slated for the 2018-2019. Riverdale, the TV adaptation of the Archie comics is currently in its second season and also in a dark and gritty place. The current plot revolving around a murder mystery is actually the perfect theme to introduce Sabrina into. While a cross-over details are not fully concrete, Sabrina could easily pop up as either a suspect, an obstruction, or an ally. The plot of Riverdale could even introduce a plot hole that allows the Sabrina: The Teenage Witch reboot to exist. For now, the character will only be in a spin-off episode of Riverdale.
Riverdale airs on the CW Wednesday nights at 8 pm Eastern on your local station and on the CW app.
