“SPACE JAM 2” FINDS ITS STARTING FIVE
4 NBA ALL-STARS AND WNBA PLAYERS JOIN THE SPACE JAM SEQUEL
Now that the NBA Finals are over (congrats to the Toronto Raptors), LeBron James can move on to his passion project; producing the sequel to 90’s classic Space Jam.
While initially having difficulty casting NBA players, James has been able to assemble quite the team. Chris Paul of Houston, Portland’s Damien Lillard, Golden State nemesis Klay Thompson and new L.A. Laker Anthony Davis have agreed to star in the film. On top of that, Space Jam 2 will star WNBA players, as Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury) and Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike (both of the Los Angeles Sparks) will have prominent roles as well.
By prominent roles, the best guess is that all of the players listed above will have their Basketball talents stolen by something; in the first film aliens stole the talents of Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, Larry Johnson, Shawn Bradley and Muggsy Bogues. With this All-Star lineup, it’s safe to say that these players will have the chance to shine at acting instead of Basketball. The inclusion of WNBA players also alludes to female antagonists being a thing in Space Jam 2.
More names are slated to appear, but they either haven’t been confirmed or announced yet on both the men’s and women’s sides. James will still star despite being involved in production.
Space Jam 2 will premiere July 16, 2021.
