THE “ANGEL OF DUST” AIN’T NOTHING TO FUCK WITH
WU-TANG CLAN TO PRODUCE ORIGINAL FILM: ANGEL OF DUST
You can’t beat the classics, especially if the classics keep evolving to meet the times. After releasing an album, making various television appearances and even having a district named after them, “Wu-Tang Clan still ain’t nothing to fuck with”.
The Wu-Tang Clan just had a docu-series premiere at Sundance called Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men and word is that a Hulu original based on the group’s early life has been greenlit. With all that momentum, Wu-Tang cornerstones RZA and Ghostface Killah will produce an original film called Angel of Dust. RZA will direct the film, which is based on an original story told by Ghostface Killah and his manger Caruso, that was adapted into a film by Matt Leslie and Stephen J. Smith. On top of that, Impossible Dreams Entertainment’s Shaun Redick (who was a part of BlacKkKlansman and Get Out) will produce.
RZA is no stranger to film as he directed and produced the score for the Man with the Iron Fist films. The same will be done for Angel of Dust, only Ghostface Killah will have a part in this film’s music as well.
Angel of Dust will center around incidents that happened to the group during their early lives (as a fictionalization) while introducing a serial killer with supernatural powers. Instead of focusing on a group of people, the film will direct these events onto one teenager. Here’s the official synopsis:
“Casey is a normal yet exceptionally smart teenager and talented rapper, but after the mysterious death of his parents he’s been forced to grow up in NY’s roughest inner-city streets (known as Shaolin in Wu-Tang folklore), basically on his own. As life in the hood around him gets tragically worse he must put his skills to the test to survive not only the gangs, corrupt cops, junkies and bullies, but a serial killer with seemingly supernatural powers dubbed ‘Angel of Dust’ by the media.”
With that kind of description, the film is more of a horror film than anything else. Angel of Dust doesn’t have a release date set, but RZA will also have his third directorial credit in the film Cut Throat City slated to release early this year. Also, Angel of Dust is set in Staten Island, so maybe that’ll help the forgotten boro’s credibility.
