THE COLLISION HAPPENS JUNE 5TH
BLAZBLUE CROSS TAG BATTLE RELEASE AND FINAL ROSTER FINALLY CONFIRMED
Aksys Games and Arc System Works had spent the entire last quarter of 2017 generating hype for their latest game: BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. Their final trailer of 2017 revealed the latest characters of the BlazBlue franchise but also teased an announcement in January. That announcement was revealed during the Fighting Game Awards this past weekend.
A new trailer dropped revealing all the current characters previously revealed with better looks at their play styles, however, the important parts of the trailer are the release date and the final roster itself. It turns out that all the characters announced in the new trailer are in fact the final roster, with an astonishing 20 characters slated for DLC.
In case anyone lost count, the now final roster consists of 20 characters for the game’s release with another 20 scheduled for DLC packs. The first character to drop on DLC will be Blake Belladonna (dropping individually) from the RWBY franchise. After that six packs of DLC will drop with three characters each (to make 19), with the last DLC character individually dropping after the sixth DLC pack. The final roster is below:
Ragna the Bloodegde (BlazBlue)
Jin Kisaragi (BlazBlue)
Rachel Alucard (BlazBlue)
Hazama (BlazBlue)
Noel Vermillion (BlazBlue)
Azrael (BlazBlue)
Iron Tager (BlazBlue)
Makoto Nanaya (BlazBlue)
Nu-Number 13 (BlazBlue)
Es (BlazBlue)
Hyde (Under-Night)
Linne (Under-Night)
Waldstein (Under-Night)
Gourdeau (Under-Night)
Yu Narukami (Persona 4)
Yosuke Hanamura (Persona 4)
Chie Satonaka (Persona 4)
Yukiko Amagi (Persona 4)
Ruby Rose (RWBY)
Weiss Schnee (RWBY)
Blake Belladonna (RWBY DLC)
The Persona franchise could have used more characters for representation during the initial release considering their characters are just as iconic, if not more, than those from BlazBlue. Given the theory that the game’s plot centers around the BlazBlue universe, it is somewhat acceptable that BlazBlue dominates the roster. Hopefully it doesn’t dominate the DLC as well. Another hope is that the DLC characters can be shipped in one package instead of having to buy all the character packs separate, but it seems that Arc System Works took a page out of Capcom’s playbook. There’s also a bunch of limited edition accessories for the game as well if you’re into that.
The trailer reveals the Japanese release date of May 31, but the game will hit state-side for Steam, PS4 and the Nintendo Switch on June 5th. There’s actually no indication of when more information will be dropped either.
