THE DEMON AND THE BLADED ROD RETURN TO THE STAGE OF HISTORY
EVO 2018 TRAILER REVEALS ASTAROTH AND SEONG MI-NA IN SOULCALIBUR VI
After an underwhelming Soul Calibur V, the next installment of the franchise is shaping up to be the breath of life and fresh air the series needs. During the weekend at EVO 2018, Bandai Namco announced the “newest” fighters to act on the stage of history. The cult creation Astaroth and the master student Seong Mi-Na are set to return.
Astaroth is the behemoth of the Soul Calibur series, sporting a huge axe and capable of devastating heavy blows. The axe provides great reach and he’s large enough to grab anyone he may face. for deadly throws. Being a “clone” of the god of war Aries, Astaroth just happens to be brutal and violent by default.
Seong Mi-Na combines the rod mastery of Kilik with the graceful swordplay of Xianghua. Her rod is literally a combination of both weapons. The rod extends her reach, while the blade allows her to deal sufficient damage. Her attacks don’t seem to be stronger than Kilik’s, but she can extend her combos like Xianghua.
Astaroth and Seong Mi-Na mark number 13 and 14 on the list of returning characters to the franchise. The addition of these two bring the roster up to 17. It’s no surprise that majority of this roster is full of familiar faces as SoulCalibur VI will fill the gap between Soul Edge and SoulCalibur. If we were to guess the remaining characters outside of DLC, Raphael and Cervantes are the only recurring characters that could possibly make a return. That is unless Bandai Namco chooses to bring back a character from Soul Edge. There’s a little over two months left until the game releases and three characters are reserved as a pre-order DLC pack. At this point the roster could be full and we wouldn’t even know it.
With Astaroth and Seong Mi-Na back, the current roster is as follows:
