THE FIRST LOOK AT THE “RESURRECTION”
SEASON 3 OF CODE GEASS IS A FILM!
Back towards the end of 2016, during the 10 year anniversary of the classic anime’s release, it was announced that Code Geass would be receiving a third installment. The third “season” was to be called Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection. Since then, the producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi has been working on a remastered film trilogy that would summarize both seasons of the anime; with the last film released in Japan this past May.
During a live stream on the Bandai Channel in Japan earlier today, the announcement of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection was finally confirmed; and it will be a film debuting February of 2019.
The film looks to be complete or at least in the process of the post-production and based on the initial look, C.C. appears to be alone during the aftermath of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. Zero’s mask is cast aside with dents from bullets and there’s a mysterious boy with white hair and what could be another geass power.
The glimpse of the new film is honestly too short to really dissect but that’s what the Internet is for. Other than that we do know that the recap films actually made some retcons to the anime’s plot. If anything Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection may follow the end of the third recap film Code Geass: Glorification more closely than the Rebellion R2 anime. If you haven’t seen the films then you better get on it.
There’s no English release date for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection, but Funimation is handling distribution of the recap films now that they’ve premiered in Japan already. Keep in mind, the first season of Code Geass originally aired in 2006. With regards to the “resurrection”, the creator of the series tried to make the anime’s ending canon, so “resurrection” may be defined as just that.
