THE GRAND RE-OPENING OF COBRA KAI

KARATE KID SEQUEL COBRA KAI DROPS NEW TRAILER

It’s all about sequels set far into the future or reboots in Hollywood these days and The Karate Kid will now have both done to it. The Karate Kid already went through its reboot phase when Jaden Smith took the helm as student next to Jackie Chan’s master, so the next step for the franchise will be a future sequel.

The first trailer for the new entry in the franchise, Cobra Kai, was released today and answers most fan questions about the result of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament. Ralph Macchio reprises his role as Daniel LaRusso 30 years after winning the tournament as a family man who’s known as the best car salesman in the Valley. Joining Macchio will be William Zabka as Johhny Lawrence, who still not over his loss, decides to reopen the disgraced Cobra Kai dojo.

The film will mostly revolve around Johnny Lawrence, although fans will notice that Daniel LaRusso still struggles with Mr. Miyagi’s death all these years after the fact.

While Macchio and Zabka will star, the film also features Xolo Maridueña from Parenthood, Designated Survivor‘s Tanner Buchanan and Courtney Henggeler and Mary Mouser from Mom and Freakish respectively.  Ed Asner will guest star as well.

With Cobra Kai set in the far future for these characters, it’s worth noting that creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg (Harold and Kumar) will stay true to the original film. The writer of Hot Tub Time Machine, Josh Heald wrote the script for this film as well.

No release date has been set but this is a YouTube Red original film.
