“WELCOME BACK TO THE STAGE OF HISTORY”
THE SIXTH GAME WILL RETELL THE STORY OF SOUL EDGE/SOULCALIBUR
The 2017 Game Awards was a huge hit with a change in its name and some new categories opening up, however, just like any awards show, the bigger news comes in the form of the reveals during the program.
One of the major reveals of the night came from Bandai Namco. After a five year hiatus, the SoulCalibur series is back. The new trailer premiered during the ceremony and showcased a simple fight between two characters. Features like the pre-match narration are confirmed to return and two members of the roster are confirmed: a younger, yet still distinguishable Sophitia and what appears to be a younger Mitsurugi.
SoulCalibur VI will run on the Unreal Engine number four and also features a “Reversal Edge” system, where players can execute a special counter-attack after reflecting a series of blows from the opponent. With the look of Mitsurugi from the trailer, it’s also confirmed that the game will retell or possibly further explore the events that started the series.
Due to the timeline of the game’s plot, mainstays like Ivy, Kilik and Maxi should return while Cervantes may return as the main antagonist. Newer characters Tira and Talim may not be on the roster. The only thing returning is the 8-way run that the series has revolutionized.
The game is slated for next year for the PS4, XBox One and PC. Besides the trailer, a 10 minute gameplay video is out as well:
